This will start to influence marketing and advertising. It threatens the traditional “consumer life cycle” model, which makes the 25-year-olds so important because they are starting families – and, presumably, forming their brand preferences. Take this trend, and combine it with the growing number of multi-generational households, and you turn grandparents into serious purchasing influencers for products that traditionally targeted only young parents. It will be interesting to see which companies pick up on this.
