Early reaction to my new book, Beyond Age Rage, suggests I may have touched a nerve. It’s still anecdotal at this stage, so I don’t want to overdo it, but I’m struck by how many people have come up to me, or emailed me, thanking me for telling the truth about all that they’re doing for their adult children. I’m picking up a real sense of frustration: they’re not retiring, they’re working harder than ever to keep a complex package going (their own longevity, their still-living parents, their not-yet-launched adult kids)…yet all they read and hear in the media is: greedy boomers, selfish seniors.
A few have suggested that I create a discussion board, or forum, here on this website, to enable boomers to dialogue with each other about how they’re doing, what they’re doing, what’s working and what’s not. What do you think of the idea? Please leave a comment or email me your thoughts on this. I’d like to continue to develop the material in the book, and to serve as a kind of central clearing-house for interested boomers and seniors who want to engage more deeply on this topic, so if you like the idea please let me know. And be sure to pass on the idea to friends and family, and encourage them to get in touch with me as well. We might be able to start something important here.
